Project: What Girls LearnIn and Out of School Symposium
Grantee: Women's Leadership Institute at Mills College
Grant Year: 1999
This conference, held in January of 2000, was crafted to inform teachers, professionals, parents, and girls of new materials, projects, research and curricula used to examine gender bias and to empower girls and boys to break down gender stereotypes. The Three Guineas Fund provided a founder's discretionary grant of $10,000 to the conference to ensure its success. The event culminated in the development of an action plan for supporting girls' achievement during the next decade. By bringing together an intergenerational, cross-cultural, and interdisciplinary group of individuals, the conference shared information on the conditions underlying gender bias in the lives of youth and developed strategies for action.
