3GF has used a mix of methods and tools in its social justice work for
women and girls. Grantmaking has been a central focus. This paper captures
some of the lessons we have learned through our experience and in
partnership with 3GF grant organizations. At 3GF, we have made every
effort to build and model a grantmaking process that is respectful and
transparent. Sharing lessons we have learned along the way is a part of
this effort. You can view the
Notes and Reflections report in PDF format (143 KB).

Through Three Guineas Fund's grantmaking, we have had
the opportunity to observe corporations and nonprofit organizations
effectively work together to create social change. In 2004, we conducted a
study of our nonprofit partners to understand how they are leveraging
business relationships to achieve their goals. We found a surprisingly
wide range of creative corporate partnerships and alliances. This report
profiles the partnerships they have built. It is our hope that nonprofit
organizations, foundations and corporations will find the lessons shared
in this report to be useful as examples or models as they develop mission
critical strategic alliances. You can view the Mission Critical Report in PDF format

An important part of Three Guineas Fund's investment approach is sharing new
learning with the philanthropic community to leverage insights based on
experience. In that spirit, we are pleased to share "More Than Money:
Strategies to Build Women's Economic Power," a report from the Global Fund
for Women (www.globalfundforwomen.org).
The report highlights global patterns in women's economic issues and makes
strategic recommendations to funders. These recommendations are drawn from
the Global Fund for Women's Economic Opportunity Initiative and grantmaking
experience in dozens of countries around the world. "More Than Money" is the
result of a collaboration between the Three Guineas Fund and the Global Fund
for Women. The Three Guineas Fund provided grant funds to develop and
publish the report. You can view the More
Than Money report in PDF format (274KB).
In the separate worlds of grantees and funders, there are few genuine
opportunities for the two to share insights and problem-solve around the
issues that are of concern to both. In the case of urban girls' programs,
the Three Guineas Fund set out to bridge the divide between these experts in
order to develop innovative strategies to improve philanthropy for girls
programs. You can view the Improving Philanthropy report in PDF format (265KB).
Girls grantmaking programs are a relatively new phenomenon in the field of
philanthropy. This guide, profiling six existing Girls as Grantmakers
programs, is designed to serve as a resource for others interested in
developing similar opportunities for girls in their communities. You can

This report tells the story of women in Silicon Valley's changing economy. It
describes the significant progress that has occurred in women's economic
participation, the unrelenting pressures, and the missed opportunities for women
to participate more fully. It also identifies the shared challenges created by
women's changing role. The report ends with a vision of the promise of the new
economy--a desired future for Silicon Valley that is economically vital,
socially innovative, and sustainable--and outlines six commitments necessary to
achieve vision. Read the full report (337 KB), or the
highlights (190 KB) in PDF and visit the

While the percentage of women in math, engineering and technology has
increased significantly in the past thirty years, we still have a long way
to go, and in some areas we are even losing our gains. This short report
highlights the work of 3GF Fellow, Shireen Lee,
who interviewed 7 women scientists on the subject.
