A Woman Who is Changing the World

What does Count Me In Founder and President Nell Merlino have in common with Paula Zahn, Anne Fudge, Bernadette Peters, Martha Nelson from People magazine?

She is receiving the New York Women in Communication's "Women Who Change the World" award at the Waldorf-Astoria in NYC in April 2004.

Nell Co-created Count Me In to champion women's economic independence. Nell also created and produced the immensely successful Take Our Daughters to Work Day for the Ms. Foundation for Women in 1993 and has extensive experience in the development and production of dynamic and effective social change campaigns. Nell is a Fulbright Scholar, a social entrepreneur and a very big thinker. She has worked in state governments, in union organizing, and is the founder of and President of Strategy Communication Action, Ltd., a firm specializing in public education and communications campaigns.

Count Me In champions the cause for women's economic independence by providing access to business loans, consultation and education. The first online microlender, Count Me In uses a unique women-friendly credit scoring system to make loans of $500 to $10,000 available to women across the United States who have nowhere to turn for that all-important first business loan. In October 2003, Three Guineas Fund awarded $50,000 over two years to Count Me In to help prove its model and influence financial institutions.
